I usually overindulge at Thanksgiving and by the end of the day I feel bloated, and tired and, well, like total crap at the end of the day. So, I decided to make my favorite Thanksgiving dishes healthy so I don't have to feel bad physically, or have any guilt for eating things I know I shouldn't eat.

We all want to enjoy the holidays, and it's possible to do that while still maintaining (or losing!) weight. I have a whole menu full of healthy Thanksgiving recipes that taste fantastic and won't leave you in a food coma. PLUS, I have a Secret Ingredient that will change the way you cook so you can reach your healthy lifestyle and weight loss goals.

Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes

Let's start with the turkey. I choose an organic turkey so you don't get all of the antibiotics and other things they like to use to fatten up those turkeys. Turkey itself is a healthy lean meat so there's no need to change that up. Ham is also a popular main dish for Thanksgiving, and that's great, too.

When it comes to everything else on the menu, my goal is to exchange all of the sugar and foods that contain white flour and high carbs for healthier - and yummy! - options.

Sugar Free and Grain Free Thanksgiving Side Dishes

I'm not big on spending a lot of time in the kitchen and I like to keep things super simple, even on Thanksgiving. So, I like to use quick and easy recipes and give myself more time for enjoying the holiday.

A lot of the traditional Thanksgiving favorites tend to contain things like white flour and sugar. The good news is that I've found sugar free and grain free options for all of those family favs that everyone is bound to enjoy - you won't even miss the sugar!

Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes - and entire Thanksgiving meal you don't have to feel guilty about - all recipes are sugar free, lo carb, grain free, keto and paleo friendly

Sugar free and grain free Thanksgiving menu options for all of those family favs that everyone is bound to enjoy - you won't even miss the sugar!

Some sugar free and grain free Thanksgiving side dishes you might want to add to your menu this year include:

  • Cranberry sauce. Made with fresh cranberries and my favorite "secret" swap for sugar, this is a delicious compliment to the turkey.
  • Mashed cauliflower. A fantastic low carb swap for mashed potatoes, with all the creamy, buttery goodness you expect from mashed potatoes, without high starch content.
  • Green bean casserole. That Thanksgiving standard, got a low carb makeover.
  • Brussel sprouts au gratin. Or change things up and use this great veggie side dish instead of the standard green bean casserole. With ingredients like cheese and bacon, what's not to love?!
  • Sweet potato casserole. A yummy pecan crust, and the added flavor of vanilla and cinnamon, but in a great sugar-free version.
  • Plus a few other recipes for low carb side dishes and even a recipe for grain free dinner rolls.

What's Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie?

And let's not forget about dessert! This recipe for Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake is to die for!

Did you catch my favorite "Secret Ingredient" swap for sugar? I like to replace the sugar with monk fruit sweetener (or stevia or erythritol). That's what gives the yummy Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake its sweetness, without upping your blood sugar levels. Monk fruit sweetener is a "0" on the glycemic index, which means it won't stimulate insulin production in the body and therefore, you won't gain weight.

Top the Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake with some homemade whip cream (just whip the cream with a little bit of the sugar free sweetener and some vanilla) and you have the perfect dessert for your Thanksgiving dinner.
